A Shires Ride-Out is a relaxed and fairly low-key event, anyone, is welcome and there's no charge

RUNNING MOST SUNDAYS THROUGH THE SUMMER

All Ride-Outs start at Shires Derby office with an aim to leave at 9am, Shires is normally open from around 8:15am to 8:30am. Ride-Outs usually take place on a Sunday, although we do sometimes go on a Saturday or even a weekday evening. For information on where and when we are going and who is coming you need to join the forum and look in the ride-out section

Highest point on Snake Pass (amazing road)
Ever fancied riding your bike somewhere, catching some of the most amazing roads that Derbyshire has to offer while at the same time being amongst others with the same interest. Now is your chance :)

Ride-Outs consist of mostly newly qualified Shires trainees, but anyone is welcome even if you have never trained at Shires, just join the forum, introduce yourself and join in. Ride-Outs are a great way to learn new roads, improve your riding lines and just have a great time with other bikers.

On a Shires Ride-Out, no one gets lost, no one gets left behind and you will always find someone else at the same skill level as you.

Ever wanted to know what you look like riding your bike,
You can ask to be filmed and get it on CD :)

You can drastically improve your riding by coming out with a group, learning new road positions, where to look and what to look for, what gear to be in and when, taking bends quicker and safer, you can get feedback and advice from the instructors, and then there are always others to chat to on the all important brew/backside break stops :)

Take a look at the video on the right for some tips before leaving

On some of our Ride-Outs we can cover up to 400 miles, so you need to make sure you bring some way of getting more fuel and some cash for food and drink during the day. We do have regular breaks for refreshments and smokes etc.
Kindly borrowed from another site :)

Just a few things to be aware of (The Rules)

We do insist that you have
  1. A bike of at least 500cc
  2. A current valid Tax disk
  3. MOT certificate (if it needs one)
  4. Full bike licence and insurance - in other words you need to be legal.
  5. You must be able to overtake, filter past cars (on the right and in the middle) and make good progress
Shires also run Ride-Outs a lot further afield, places like Whitby, Wales, Skeggy, Mablethorpe,
London (Ace Cafe) with plans to go to the Lake District, and Scotland.
In 2010 we will be arranging Rides to Germany, France, Holland, Spain & North West 200 :)

To the left is us at Aberystwyth beach in Wales

More images and details of previous
Ride-Outs can be found here :~)

Due to the mileage we cover, we would highly reccommend that you have some form of recovery (AA, RAC etc). If you break down we will do our best to get you going, but eventually we would have to continue with the Ride-out and leave you in the hands of your recovery company, not having this cover is unfair on the rest of the group.

On long rides please make sure you check the following before leaving Shires

  1. Petrol (on arrival)
  2. Oil
  3. Water and fluids
  4. Electrics (Lights indicators etc)
  5. Rubber (Tyre pressures & tread)
  6. Chain tension and lube
Remember your POWER check guys :)

And finally

When riding in a group you do have to be more careful;
We ask that you listen to and follow the advice of the Shires Instructor on the day and the rules of Shires Ride-outs.
Everyone attending a Shires ride-out does so at their own risk.
Shires cannot be held in anyway responsible for anything that happens during a ride-out.
By attending our ride-outs you agree that you take full responsibility of any issues which may occur during the ride-out and are deemed to have read and agree to these ride-out rules

So come on all, join the FORUM and join in the fun, ain't that why you passed your bike test
I am going to start adding some flash movies to give people a better understanding when riding in a group.
