cbt nottingham derby
The 125 Intense course was introduced to allow riders 17 years of age or above to take a test on a motorcycle between 121-125cc. Once passed, the rider is given a restricted motorcycle licence (shown as A2 on your licence) that allows them to ride a motorcycle which exceeds no more than 25KW (33BHP) for the first two years.
After 2 years the licence automatically upgrades (shown as A on your licence), therefore allowing the rider to ride any size motorcycle.
As part of the course you must complete a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) to gain a DL196 certificate.
A full motorcycle theory test must also be taken before the practical test can be taken.

So what to do next
First of all, either pop into our Derby office or call us to arrange your course requirements. Below is a list of the four stages that you need to complete in order to gain your A2 licence:
  • CBT,Compulsory Basic Training
  • Theory Test, which we can book in for you. We can also provide you with revision materials (DVD-Rom) to help you revise
  • Module 1 Practical Test (Specified Manoeuvres)
  • Module 2 Practical Test (On Road Riding)
The prices can also include
  • Motorcycle Hire - this could be using a geared bike such as a Yamaha XT125, Yamaha YBR125, Suzuki VanVan125 or on an automatic Yamaha Vity 125
  • All insurance and fuel needed for the motorcycle
  • All your kit, including an approved motorcycle safety helmet, jacket, boots, gloves and waterproof over-trousers
The motorcycle practical test is now split into 2 modules:- Module 1 (Specified Manoeuvres) and Module 2 (On Road Riding Skills). The Module 1 test is carried out on an off-road DSA approved test site and covers all the slow riding and manoeuvres you will have learnt in your training. The test can last for approximately 25 minutes.
Module 2 is the on-road riding part, which is carried out on possible roads you may have been on for your training. The test lasts approximately 40 to 45 minutes.
You must pass Module 1 before you are able to take Module 2.
There is free tea & coffee available throughout the day and usually a burger van too.
There are toilet facilities and off road parking.
Shires have the largest approved off road training area in the midlands

We would highly recommend that if you are considering any type of motorcycle training that you read the latest copy of the highway code, especially young riders taking a CBT course.

The highway code can be purchased from our Derby branch, or found online here
