CBT Compulsory Basic Training
Element 'B' Introduction to machine

At this stage of your cbt all trainees are given a high visabilty vest and are asked to follow an instructor outside.
You may be split into smaller groups if there are more than four of you attending a course
You will all gather around a single motorbike, usualy a Yamaha YBR125cc.
This section of the cbt aims to tell you about the basic controls and parts of a motorcycle.
This can be done on any motorcycle or moped because the controls are mostly the same on all bikes

Controls on motorcycles are fairly similar across makes and models, you should be able to find your way around most motorbikes and identify most bits and pieces after reading this.

As always, the manufacturer's handbook is the definitive guide for any motorcycle and you should follow the advice and guidance in the handbook rather than on this website if there's any doubt.

Move your mouse over the image for more details.

Most motorcycles have manual transmission and have their controls in similar positions but bikes with automatic or semi-automatic transmission will be different.
The diagrams and descriptions are a general description of the controls on a typical motorcycle.

The motorcycle in the picture is a Yamaha YBR125cc.

This is one of the brand new motorcycles Shires use on a cbt.
