Hi Everyone
My name is Paul Nunn, I am the owner of Shires Motorcycle Training Although Shires was established in 1990 I took ownership on the 1st November 2005.
I saw many ways to improve the business and make the whole training experience more enjoyable for both the trainees and the instuctors.
One task was to look at the motorcycle kit we offer for our trainees to wear during training, I wanted it to give good protection, keep trainees warm and look smart. So with this in mind I replaced everything with brand new kit, new jackets, gloves, boots, waterproof over trousers and of course safety helmets.
I have continued to update this with new kit ever since which gives me the opportunity to offer partly used kit to trainees at reduced prices.

I also looked at the motorcycles that trainees have to train on and compared them to other training schools, noticing the quality of other training school bikes led me to only one conclusion.
Shires will use brand new motorcycles.
Now most of the motorcycles used at Shires are brand new, this makes your training experience more enjoyable. Riding a quality bike helps you feel better which in turn increases your confidence.

Other improvements were:
  • A new Mercedes Van to move bikes between sites
  • Continuously updateing our bikes so you are always riding quality
  • Supplied all new kit for trainees to hire or buy including accessories
  • Re-branded with all new logos
  • Re-issued all company marketing collateral with new logo's
  • Recruitment of 10 new instructors and 2 new office staff
  • Re-designed and updated website
In 2009, we continued to provide trainees with the best possible equipment, such as:
  • Motorcycles no more than 3 years old
  • We also replaced all the CBF500's to BMW F650GS's

Our Mission statement is quite simply that;

'We are dedicated to making Safer riding a way of life'

We currently specialise in Motorcycle Training at all levels including;
  • GetOn, a pre taster of the Compulsory Basic Training
  • Compulsory Basic Training
  • Test course Training (125 Intense or Direct Access on 650cc)
  • Roadcraft / Derbyshire Bike Plus
  • Advanced (RoSPA or IAM)
We try to offer 'The Complete Motorcycling Experience' for successful trainees who have passed their tests, by encouraging them to join in with our group ride-outs, which allows them to develop new skills and gain experience along the way.
The ride-outs are also great for socialising and are educational whilst enjoying yourself!
  • The group ride outs travel to various destinations within the UK (6 per year during summer months)
  • Trips abroad to the Nurburg ring for track experiences is both exciting and enjoyable (May & August)
  • A yearly trip to the Isle of Man for the TT is also a great experience not to be missed! (June)
Where is our future?
  • Continue to develop the wider motorcycling experience, not just for those who want to pass their tests, but also for those who already have a motorcycle licence and want to further their knowledge
  • Continue to provide the best possible training for each individual and maintain the equipment to a high standard in order to help trainees achieve their end goals, i.e. exchanging our fleet of bikes every so many months for brand new, reliable, up to date machines
  • Continue to provide an environment where bikers can come and socialise, have a coffee, relax, ask any questions they may have and show us their new bikes!
  • Expand the business further by providing training at one or two extra sites to the ones we already have
