The Get-On is a taster session aimed at people who have never ridden before and are unsure whether motorcycling is for them.
It's an opportunity to start with a 50cc automatic to see whether balance and throttle control can be achieved safely.
The CBT course is designed and legislated specifically to be the 1st stage in learning to ride a motorcycle at any level. You must complete a CBT to enable you to ride a moped or motorcycle on the road if you have not already passed your motorcycle test. In order to complete the course, you MUST have both parts of your Driving Licence (card and counterpart).
This is 3 hours additional training after CBT, which is subsidised by the Derbyshire County Council. On this course you are able to build on the skills you have learnt from the CBT course, improve your confidence and experience whilst out on the road with a qualified instructor. It is highly recommended for 16yr olds to gain more road experience.
This course enables anybody over the age of 17 to take motorcycle training and tests on a motorcycle between 120cc and 125cc, capable of reaching at least 100kph (62mph) but not more than 14.6bhp (11kw). Once you have passed all the tests, you will be able to ride any size CC motorcycle, however it must be restricted down to 33BHP for the first two years of the licence; after this time you will be able to ride any size motorcycle to full power
This course is for anybody over the age of 21 who wishes to take their motorcycle training and tests on a motorcycle of at least 46.6bhp (25kw), around a 500cc motorcycle or more. All training for this course must be completed with an Approved Training Body (ATB). Once you have passed all the tests, you will be able to ride any size motorcycle to full power from the word go
This is post test training designed to develop your knowledge and skills beyond basic test level standard. The training that we provide i.e. Bike Plus ERS (Enhanced Riders Scheme), can work towards advanced qualifications such as IAM or RoSPA. Alternatively, we can provide Back to Bike training which is tailored to suit your individual needs, as there is no set syllabus
Join the Shires community!
Shires invite all trainees to join the forum, and our facebook community, many of our trainees who have already passed their test regularly come down to
Shires for free tea & coffee just to chat about their bike and experiences since passing. This also enables you to join in the many ride-outs that we have during the summer months which allows them to develop new skills and gain experience along the way while at the same time you get to meet other trainees who have passed.
Riding in a group is so much more fun than riding alone, and the best part is there is always an instructor there to help or give advise when needed. and it's all FREE !!! (except the training & tests.)
